Making gingerbread with Truett & June
Get ready for the world's least professional cooking video. Here, "we" make a small batch of gingerbread for your viewing pleasure. And all kinds of other parenting related small disasters occur. (PS see if you can hear what Truett compares the batter to, about halfway through!)
Here is the link to the recipe I used and here is how I modified:
2/3 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter (unsalted, at room temperature)
1 egg
1 cup molasses
2 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup hot water
Preheat oven to 350 F. Line a 9 X 9 baking dish with parchment paper to fit the bottom. Cream sugar and butter with mixer. Beat in egg. Mix in molasses. Sift all dry ingredients together and slowly blend with wet mixture. Add hot water, blend slowly. Pour into pan. This is important: check your gingerbread (with a knife in the middle) after 30 minutes. Our first batch burned at 45 minutes and I think easy does it with the amount of time in the oven.
(We decorated ours with crushed yogurt & peppermint covered pretzels (thanks, Cari!), red and green sprinkles and piped on white frosting! Messy but fun!)

Good job, Hope! It looks like poop! :) The whole thing was hilarious AND educational...regarding gingerbread and managing 2 kids!

HAHAHA. When he said it I was like GAH TRUE, can't you see I'm trying to be all Barefoot Contessa up in here? He was driving me crazy in the moment but when I watched it again it was kind of darling :)
Hope you're enjoying new mama-hood! xoxo
