It is no secret that a detailed To Do list, daily plans and lists in general really get my motor running. Sexy, yes? My sister Summer inadvertently fed this fire by giving me The Happy Book for Christmas. Sure, it can be cheesy and sort of geared towards the high school set; laminating self-affirmation cards just isn't my bag...baby, but other suggestions made me wonder WHY DON'T I EAT BUTTERED TOAST IN BED MORE OFTEN? And etc.
So as a total, "my wife is making me do this" exercise, I asked Bud to plan his perfect day and I would plan mine. Then we'd set a date for each and make it happen. Plans can't be "jet to Australia for the day", for obvious reasons, but you know. Those things you'd like to do on a daily basis but tell yourself no, because why?
I thought if I blogged it, I'd be much more likely to do it so, ahem, with no further ado, here is mine:
Wake up early with Bud and Truett. This is sort of duh because Truett does not sleep in.
Quick, small breakfast, thermos of coffee to take.
Hike at Moss Rocks.
Brunch at diner or coffee shop.
Back home for Truett nap (ha!) and ocd housekeeping.
Trip to bookstore, preferably one with a coffee shop. Browse books on travel, home improvement, recipes. Get juiced up on coffee and inspiration and leave shop feeling high as kite. Will probably only put a few ideas into true action but that is far better than none.
Light lunch at Chipotle? Or quick trip to grocery store for inspired food ideas. Oooh or maybe sushi. GOSH THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS.
Somewhere in here we rent a movie or season of a good show. Somewhere in here we buy a bottle of wine. I don't know, I'm still hammering out the details, see how fun this is?
Buy something off my wish list - under $20 (we've already been out to breakfast and possibly lunch).
Home to prep for dinner, Truett bath and bed.
A dinner where Bud and I make exciting plans for our future: more kids, travel plans, home improvement, financial goals.
Finish bottle of wine with maybe some popcorn or dessert in front of our movie/show.
Wow! Just even talking about it has me all atwitter.
And I'll bet you a million dollars some people (GEORGIA) are reading this and thinking this confirms my membership into the L.A.M.E. (Losers who Are Married with childrEn) club.
BUT. I would love to hear your ideas for a perfect day. An idea, an entire list. And then maybe I will steal some of them and make my second perfect day. Also, pending permission, I'll post Bud's perfect day, then we'll let you know how they went. My guess is the plans will get somewhat derailed about halfway through the day, but the planning is half the fun.
Some other prompts from the book I'd like to do and write about:
Find your favorite passage or sentence in a book - I read this to mean including the sentences that aren't necessarily the artsy-est but also the ones that include juicy sounding words. I love the words crush and crash. Cement. Cake. Cobble. I am all of a sudden realizing I have a thing for the letter C.
List of happy songs. I dare you to listen to Streetcorner Symphony by Rob Thomas or Say Hey (I Love You) by Michael Franti and Spearhead and not feel excited about something. Especially Streetcorner Symphony. I used to blare that on the way to work and nearly ran off the road on several occasions. Yes, I know, that part would not have been happy.
What makes you happy that "shouldn't"? I think Summer likes to do dishes. Now that I think about it, so do I. Warm soapy water and a clean kitchen? Mmmm.
Okay, I think the espresso is wearing off. Please don't be shy about sharing something in the comments. That is something that makes me very happy.
