The deceptive stockings project - looks so easy! Ends up being obnoxiously harder than it has to be! Because I keep breaking threads and mis-using the sewing machine! - culminated yesterday.
After "creating" the pattern from wrapping paper, I cut out six matching pieces of the hardy cream colored fabric. I actually doubled the fabric and cut out two at a time which made it so each stocking piece was more uniform in size and shape. It still didn't totally work, so I like to call them "folksy", you know, with some imperfections.
I added the grey felt to the tops by suggestion of Bonnie and sewed those hems last, after doing each side to nearly the top. Believe it or not, these took me several days to make but I like to chalk that up to only being able to work on them during nap time or the little bits of the day Truett is not riding around on my hip. Not that I'm complaining.
Plus, every time I went to the sewing machine something malfunctioned. I inevitably had not thread the needle correctly (seriously, if they could only invent a machine that required a one-step threading. How has this not happened yet, people? I mean LICKING-THE-THREAD technology hasn't changed in years.)
Yesterday, once they were entirely sewed together, I worked on cutting out the pictures for each front and used fabric glue to stick those puppies to the front.
TA DA.
Good job, Hope! Sewing felt is a little difficult so don't worry, it's not totally you!! Happy Turkey Day to y'all. Still no baby.
